Servcorp, the innovator of the Serviced and Virtual office industry are proud to announce that their chosen partner for the 2012 Christmas fundraising efforts was The Renewal Center. Each year Servcorp chooses one local charity to support and this time it is the turn of this Shanghai based charity. Servcorp raised money by selling raffle tickets to existing clients, local business contacts, friends, family and the local community. The entrants then got the chance to win some amazing prizes including return flights to Hong Kong, an iPad Mini and a personalized painting by local artist and Renewal Centre volunteer Faith Hampton. All the profits went directly to the center Servcorp is proud to have raised RMB60,000 which covers the running costs for a whole month, using their ‘365 days of Renewal' campaign as inspiration. The 365 campaign is designed to allow companies and individuals to cover their daily RMB2000 running costs by sponsoring a day of renewal.
The Renewal Centre was started by American born Jimmy McWhinney in 2008 with the idea of providing help and support to migrant workers from all over China who come to Shanghai in search of a better life, only to find themselves on the streets. They offer drop-in services such as showers and laundry to homeless people in Shanghai. In addition to these basic services, the RC offers life skills training, residency, work therapy and employment assistance programs for integration into Shanghai's economy and society, or to reconcile with their families and return home.
Michaela Julian, Senior manager at Servcorp commented “Here at Servcorp we have a long standing commitment to giving back to the local community and we are especially excited about our latest initiative with The Renewal Centre. From the minute we were introduced to Jimmy and the center we knew that we would be involved on a number of levels, going to visit and see the work they do and the progress they have made in the last year is inspiring. It's rare that you find such a personal connection with a charity but everyone who comes into contact with them wants to help. Jimmy's efforts to raise money with his 365 program make it simple for anyone to get involved. We hope to also expand awareness for the center so others can follow our lead and help to change people's lives forever.”
